Interpreting Tarot Cards : The World
Interpreting Tarot Cards: The WorldThe tarot interpetation for The World, as were all of the tarot cards done on this site were done by an expert and teacher of this subject. Tarot meanings are best understood when the individual checks in with him or her self and feels what meaning the card may have in their life. You know yourself best and can be your best reader. In Interpreting Tarot Cards for The World, we see a woman occupies the center of the card, clad in only a purple cloth and bearing two wands or scrolls, one in each hand. Surrounding her is a wreath tied with two red ribbons at the top and bottom, while beyond it in each corner are four creatures. The World falls under the influence of Saturn and there is a certain balance and symmetry to this card. At each order, going clockwise from the top left we find the heads of: a man, an eagle, a lion and a bull. By now we know the tarot well enough to recognize these symbols.
If we look back to The Wheel of Fortune, we can see winged versions of each image occupying the same position. These representations of the four fixed signs also represent the four corners of the world and therefore stability in an earthly sense. We are reminded again of the magical vow – to will, to dare, to know and to be silent. In The World, these principles have been realized and a sense of maturity and integration has been achieved. If we look more closely at the red ribbons we can see that they are reminiscent of the infinity symbol we first saw above The Magician. Also, the central figure has two wands or scrolls, indicating both balance and the ability to work with both active and receptive principles. She may not look it at first glance, but the woman in this card is an old soul. If we have the understanding, we might see that the purple cloth wrapped around her is reminiscent of the ‘lightning flash’ path that consciousness takes down the Tree of Life, from the higher to the lower and back again. This card symbolizes spiritual authority and the Saturnian principle of responsibility. In a family setting, this may be parenthood or grandparenthood. In a business this is the boss or a trusted advisor. The World is a teacher and also shows us the transition from initiate to initiator, from one who has sought to one who is now in a position to serve. Service, whether it is something purely spiritual or practical, is rarely a glamorous endeavor. But it is a way of channeling higher forces and making ourselves a vessel or tool for universal service. In a reading, this card represents a spiritual coming of age, but unlike its physical counterpart, in a spiritual sense this can often mean an added workload or set of responsibilities. Interpreting Tarot Cards, The World: From a mundane perspective, this card can also indicate limitations or restrictions being placed upon us. Holidays are cancelled, a freedom or privilege that we had grown to expect has to be withdrawn. By rising above this limitations and working within the boundaries of what is possible, we demonstrate a higher perspective and a newfound maturity.
