Virgo Myth
Virgo Myth: Rose and Wilcox, authors of "Sun Signs for the Millenium" state that Ceres and Vesta, the two biggest asteroids are linked to Virgo.
The goddess Vesta tended to the hearth and was the protector of the home and community. She oversaw the vestal virgins who led quiet, contemplative lives.
We can see a correlation with people born under this sign today. They like doing solo activities like reading and gardening and still need time for reflection. Ceres, the Roman goddess of the grain and agriculture is a part of Virgo as well. She represents the productive side of Virgo, notes Rose.
Rose explains the myth of Ceres and her daughter Persephone which sheds light on the close relationships Virgos have with their mother. As the story goes, Ceres (also known as Demeter) and her daughter were very devoted to one another and lived a peaceful life until Pluto came along.
This Virgo myth states theat one day, Pluto had his way with Persephone and took her to live with him in the underworld to be his queen. In despair, Ceres, goddess of the earth, scoured the land for her daughter. She blessed those who helped her and cast devastation when others would not.
Seeing the devastation Ceres was causing, Jupiter stepped in. He, along with Mercury, were able to get Pluto to come to an agreement so Ceres could be reunited with her daughter again.
Pluto agreed to let Persephone spend one third of every year in the underworld and the other two thirds with his mother. And that is how the cycle of the seasons came about. When Perspehone is in the underworld, the land is barren. When she returns, life blossoms.
From this myth, lies some truth. Most Virgos have a very close relationship with their mother. Virgo children learn how to be dutiful from their mothers and usually grow up to be the one to take care of them when they get older. Because they are so attached to their mothers, they sometimes have a difficult time separating emotionally from their mothers when they get older.
