Sorry this took so long to answer. It got lost in the shuffle of things.

I never heard that you have to detach from your mother to utilize your psychic powers.

But I do agree, you need to have a certain detachment from egoic relationships (and those usually are our birth family) to really tune in and hear Spirit.

You have several guardian angels. Try the exercises in the angel section on this site and you should be able to hear the answer yourself.
