The Hermit falls under the influence of Virgo and this is very much a card of both seeking guidance and of recognizing whether the guidance on offer is appropriate to your need and your situation.

It is one thing to seek out and to find a mentor, but another entirely to be able to make sense of their words and to be able to apply them in our lives.

The meaning of tarot cards - the hermit can also indicate a sense of isolation and depression, of experiencing a dark night of the soul.

But spiritual guidance and comfort is indicated by the lamp that shines with a six-rayed star.

Perhaps there is something you are not learning? Perhaps it is time to temporarily withdraw from the people and situations around you so that you can go within to seek a higher meaning to your issues?

You can be certain that when this symbol appears in a tarot card spread, it is time to think carefully about the matter at hand and to not try and avoid the responsibility of dealing with it.

The card can also indicate someone who is more comfortable rescuing others than allowing them to experience what they have created through their actions or inactions.

It can be painful to watch those we love struggling in life, yet that is also part of the necessary experience for their own growth. To deny them that is to deny them the opportunity to grow.

So sometimes the best we can do is offer them a light in the darkness and a shoulder to lean on, should they decide that they need it.
