Tarot Card Reading
Instructions and The Sun

Tarot Card Reading Instructions:

If you are new to working with Tarot, you will want to read our Tarot Card Reading Instructions.

1. Work with a deck that’s right for you.

Some say it is best to have the cards given to you as a gift, but it’s just as valid to buy your own.

These days, with the great range of decks and designs on offer, it’s important to work with symbolism you can relate to and a card size that suits you.

It’s a good idea to check out the various decks on line or to visit a specialist store.

2. Get to know your cards well before you try actual readings.

It can be tempting to just use the cards from the get-go and rely on the booklet they came with.

This will give you experience of a reading, but it won’t draw upon your own innate intuition, which generally needs to be developed.

3. Never feel pressured to read for anyone.

And now back to:

The Tarot Card Interpretation for The Sun

Before us is a child on horseback, holding an enormous, vibrant orange flag or banner.

Behind the child we can see sunflowers growing above the top of a wall and high above everything is the sun itself.

19 The Sun

This card falls under the influence of the Sun and speaks of completion, achievement and success.

For centuries, horses were the only means of transport and they can also represent our passage through life.

In this card, the child does not need reins and control or direction is not an issue because the horse has been tamed.

Sunflowers are naturally associated with the solar principle, partly because they turn and track the sun.

The flowers in this card have also pushed beyond the height of the wall and now receive the sun’s rays without obstruction.

Note that the face on the Sun is still and lacking in emotion, almost like a Buddha.

Whatever success is foretold or being experienced here is something that has been attained through effort and not through ‘chance’ benevolence.

When Buddha achieved enlightenment it was through effort and single-mindedness.

This is a time of having one’s moment in the spotlight and receiving the rich rewards that have been earned.

Note too that the child is wearing a red feather – we have seen this symbol before; if we look back through other cards of the Major Arcana, we will see that The Fool was also wearing a red feather.

So in some sense this card represents the end of a journey or a satisfactory conclusion.

This card signifies a positive outcome based on personal endeavor. This could be a job interview, a marriage proposal or a business venture.

The key thing here is that the outcome is not a matter of luck or chance, but the culmination of all activity that has led up to it.

The tarot card reading instructions also ask us to check in withourselves and see what resonates with who we are and what is going on in or lives at the moment.

So we need to be attuned to any inner messages we get.

In this instance The Sun may also indicate a person who is not only a positive influence, but is someone who is also an achiever in life.

Achievement is often relative in life so a lot depends on your terms of reference.

For example, a teacher, an entrepreneur or a supportive parent – to become any of these in life and to be willing and able to inspire and to pass on encouragement and advice is an achievement.

A word of caution with this card is called for.

Just as no single card is entirely positive or negative, we must be willing to see other aspects of this card if we are to truly learn from it.

Some could call the child’s posture foolhardy and too trusting.

So we need to be sure about the steps we have taken to underpin our success, and honest with ourselves about what work still needs to be done.

And let’s not forget that too long in the sun and things can scorch and burn.
